[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City in Gyeongnam announced on the 9th at 11 a.m. that it held a meeting of the Re-Gyeong Committee at the Korea Press Center in Seoul to attract the Lee Kun-hee Museum of Art to Jinju.
Attendees of the Re-Gyeong Committee on that day included Jinju Mayor Cho Gyu-il, Gyeongsang National University President Kwon Soon-ki (Chairman of the Jinju Attraction Committee), and National Assembly members Park Dae-chul and Kang Min-guk.
The Re-Gyeong Committee is composed of 17 prominent local figures active in politics, business, media, and the cultural and arts sectors.
At the inauguration ceremony, 14 people attended, including Son Gil-seung, Honorary Chairman of SK Telecom, Son Byung-doo, former Chairman of the Ho-Am Foundation, Jeong Gyeong-du, former Minister of National Defense, Seo Bong-geun, founding chairman of DMTNS Co., local alumni association presidents in the capital area, and local media representatives.
Mayor Cho said, “The Lee Kun-hee Museum of Art should be attracted to Jinju, the central city of the southern region, for cultural decentralization, realization of cultural democracy, and balanced national development. I ask for the active cooperation of the influential Re-Gyeong hometown community members who are actively engaged in politics, business, media, and the cultural and arts sectors to unite efforts so that the Lee Kun-hee Museum of Art can be attracted to Jinju.”
He also appealed for support to withdraw the LH separation reform plan.
Jung Young-soo, advisor to CJ Group; Cho Kyung-kyu, former Minister of Environment; and Sung Kyung-ryung, former Chairman of the National Balanced Development Committee, expressed their active participation and sent encouraging video messages pledging to do their best to attract the Lee Kun-hee Museum of Art to their hometown Jinju.
Meanwhile, at the meeting, after Mayor Cho’s explanation of current issues, a heated discussion took place, and there was consensus on the need for timely responses through close monitoring of the government’s criteria for selecting candidate sites for the Lee Kun-hee Museum of Art.

In particular, Chairman Son expressed the opinion, “I believe Jinju is an ideal location for the Lee Kun-hee Museum of Art, which has exceptional natural scenery and abundant cultural and artistic resources. To advance as a world-class tourist city through attracting the museum, significant corresponding efforts are necessary.”
