Hyundai Motor Unveils Ioniq 5 and Nexo at Korea's Largest Electric Vehicle Exhibition
[Asia Economy Reporter Changhwan Lee] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 9th that it will participate in 'xEV Trend Korea 2021,' the largest electric vehicle exhibition in Korea, to showcase its advanced electrification technology.
Now in its fourth year, xEV Trend Korea is the only electric vehicle expo in Seoul held under government leadership to expand private electric vehicle adoption. The event takes place from today until the 12th at COEX in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
At this event, Hyundai will exhibit the Ioniq 5, the first model of its dedicated electric vehicle brand Ioniq, offer test drive experiences, and showcase the ultra-fast charging system E-pit and the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle Nexo.
The Ioniq 5 is the first model to apply Hyundai Motor Group's dedicated electric vehicle platform, E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform), maximizing the value unique to dedicated electric vehicles with advanced technology and innovative interior space.
The maximum driving range per single charge is 429 km (based on the Long Range 2WD with 19-inch wheels), and with a 350kW ultra-fast charger, it can charge 80% of the battery capacity (from 10% to 80%) within 18 minutes.
Hyundai has prepared a car camping zone where visitors can experience the Ioniq 5's V2L function and car camping customization products (air mattress, camping chair, trunk for camping table, etc.), as well as a space to experience the Ioniq 5's Relaxation Comfort Seats that create a zero-gravity posture by adjusting the seatback and cushion angles.
Additionally, during the exhibition period, a vehicle test drive program is operated to let visitors feel the unique features of the Ioniq 5. The Ioniq 5 test drives are available in two models: Long Range with a 72.6kWh battery in two-wheel drive (2WD) and all-wheel drive (4WD). Reservations can be made in advance through the official xEV Trend Korea website or on-site registration.
Hyundai also introduced the ultra-fast electric vehicle charging system E-pit. E-pit enables 80% charging (from 10% to 80%) within 18 minutes. It applies the Plug & Charge function, which automatically authenticates and processes payment immediately upon connecting the charging cable, allowing charging to start right away and enhancing charging convenience. The Plug & Charge function can be used after pre-authentication and card registration via the E-pit dedicated application.
Nexo Leading the Global Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle Market Also Exhibited
Meanwhile, Hyundai exhibited the future-oriented SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) Nexo, equipped with next-generation powertrain hydrogen fuel cell systems and numerous advanced convenience technologies, alongside the Ioniq 5 at this exhibition.
Nexo is a vehicle that has led the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle market by achieving cumulative sales of 10,000 units in a single country last year, the world's first for a single model.
