View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chunhan] Lotte Duty Free announced on the 8th that it has introduced eco-friendly electric vehicles for bonded transportation trucks for the first time in the domestic duty-free industry. These vehicles are logistics trucks that transport duty-free goods between downtown stores, the integrated logistics center, and international airports, operating more than 100 km per day on average per vehicle.
Starting today, Lotte Duty Free will begin a pilot operation of electric vehicles for bonded transportation, monitoring operations to identify and improve any issues, and will gradually expand the program. The plan is to convert all 13 bonded transportation 1-ton diesel trucks currently in operation to 100% electric vehicles by 2022. Additionally, an electric vehicle charging station will be separately installed within the integrated logistics center located on Yeongjongdo.
Lotte Duty Free predicts that the full replacement of 1-ton bonded transportation vehicles will reduce approximately 51 tons of greenhouse gases and 24 kg of fine dust annually, and expects to reduce operating costs by about 17% compared to existing diesel vehicles.
Lotte Duty Free will transform its integrated logistics center, which boasts the largest scale in the industry, into an eco-friendly duty-free logistics center by introducing solar power facilities. The company has completed vendor selection and will begin construction this month after obtaining permits. Upon completion within the year, about 67% of the electricity consumption used in the logistics center will be replaced with eco-friendly solar energy.
