Accordingly, fruit farmers must comply with mandatory orchard management record-keeping, frequent disinfection and record management of tools and equipment, mandatory record-keeping for seedling management, restrictions on visits by farmers from infected orchards to non-infected orchards, prohibition of residue movement, management of overwintering sites of the disease, and reinforcement of fire blight prevention and surveillance.
Fire blight is a bacterial disease that causes plant tissues to blacken or turn red and wither as if burned by fire, spreading rapidly. It was first detected in Gyeongbuk Province on the 4th in Andong.
Pohang City is operating a fire blight response situation room with the head of the Agricultural Technology Center as the director, conducting emergency surveillance of local fruit farmers, strengthening activities of plant quarantine inspectors, and enhancing public awareness. Failure to comply with the administrative order may result in a reduction of compensation for losses caused by fire blight.
