Changwon City Returns 'Jinhae Deoksan Landfill Phase 2' to Residents After Completion
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The Green City Project Office of Changwon City, Gyeongnam Province, plans to conduct a "Basic Plan and Feasibility Study for Land Use" on the site of the Jinhae Deoksan Landfill Phase 2, which is scheduled to cease operation in 2023, in order to improve the perception of the landfill as a nuisance facility since the direct landfill of food waste has been prohibited since January 2005.
The Deoksan Landfill consists of Phases 1, 2, and 3. Phase 1, which has already been closed, is currently being used as the Hansan University Fitness Center.
It is open to the general public as well as naval personnel and has become a local attraction.
After the landfill ceases operation, the land in the landfill area can be used during the post-management period under the Waste Management Act. The regulations allow for the installation of facilities such as tree planting, grassland creation, sports facilities, and cultural facilities.
The city plans to do its best to expand recreational facilities for residents in Phase 2 of the Deoksan Landfill, including a park golf course, parks and green spaces, and sports facilities.
Since there are about two years remaining for the landfill use in Phase 2, the creation of Phase 3 is an urgent matter.
