[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] The police investigated the owners of a saengtaetang (pollack soup) restaurant as witnesses, who claim to remember Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon visiting the site to survey his in-laws' land located in Naegok-dong.
According to the police on the 4th, the Anti-Corruption and Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency conducted a four-hour investigation from 2:30 p.m. on the 3rd at the Uiwang Police Station in Gyeonggi Province, questioning the saengtaetang restaurant owners as witnesses. Considering the advanced age of the individuals being investigated, the inquiry was conducted as an on-site investigation.
The owners claimed that in June 2005, when they were running a restaurant in Naegok-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, Mayor Oh stopped by their restaurant to eat saengtaetang after completing the survey of the land owned by his in-laws in Naegok-dong. They appeared on a radio broadcast last April and described Mayor Oh’s appearance in detail when he visited the restaurant, asserting that it was true that Mayor Oh had visited the Naegok-dong land survey site at that time.
The police reportedly questioned them about the circumstances at that time and their willingness to pursue charges related to defamation.
