Jeju Police Appoint 'Social Media Supporters'
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Jeong-pil] Jeju Police Agency announced on the 4th that it held the inauguration ceremony for the ‘6th Jeju Police Social Media Supporters’ on the 3rd to revitalize civil-police cooperation online promotion.
Since 2016, Jeju Police has appointed prominent SNS operators and online promotion experts as social media supporters to participate in police publicity.
At the inauguration ceremony, Chief Kang Hwang-su awarded certificates of appreciation to two outstanding members who have been actively working as supporters for the past year and delivered appointment letters to 12 people, including Kim Hyang-mi, the representative of ‘Jeju Mom Cafe.’
The newly appointed ‘6th Social Media Supporters’ consist of so-called ‘influencers’ who are actively engaged online, ranging from lifestyle and travel information communities to YouTube channel operators and mothers’ groups.
They will participate in producing various public safety information and police promotional content for the next year and help police online promotion by sharing these with a total of 1.4 million members through SNS channels.
They also plan to take on the role of watchdogs against various false information spread online to ensure that SNS becomes a healthy platform for information sharing.

A Jeju Police Agency official said, “As the importance of online promotion has increased due to the COVID-19 situation, we ask them to serve as a ‘bridge connecting the police and the public’ so that more citizens can share public safety information based on their online networks.”
