'Retaliatory Driving' Gubonsung Receives Probation in First Trial... Urges "Let's Go Quickly" After Sentencing
[Asia Economy Reporters Seongpil Jo, Daehyun Kim] Gu Bonseong, Vice Chairman of Ourhome, who was indicted for retaliatory driving that damaged another vehicle and pushing the driver with his car, was sentenced to probation in the first trial.
On the afternoon of the 3rd, Judge Joo Jinam of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 15 sentenced Vice Chairman Gu, who was charged with special property damage and special injury, to six months in prison with a two-year probation. Judge Joo stated, "Although the defendant's guilt is not light, he confessed to the crime and the extent of the damage is not considered severe," adding, "Considering that he reached an amicable settlement with the victim and that the victim does not wish for punishment," as the reason for the sentencing.
Earlier, on September 5th last year, around 12:35 PM near Hakdong Intersection in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Gu was driving a BMW when a Mercedes cut in front of him. He retaliated by overtaking and suddenly braking. Due to Gu's retaliatory driving, the two vehicles collided, and the Mercedes suffered damage to its front bumper and other parts. After leaving the scene immediately following the accident, Gu was also indicted for pushing the driver of the victim's vehicle, who had gotten out to stop his escape, with his car, causing injuries to the waist and shoulder.

After the sentencing, when reporters asked Gu about his feelings regarding the guilty verdict, he did not respond and left the courthouse. During this, he urged his lawyer, saying, "Let's go quickly." Gu is the eldest son of Gu Jahak, the third son of LG Group founder Gu Inhoe, and was appointed CEO of Ourhome in 2016.
