The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on the 2nd, there were 677 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 141,476. Of these, 654 were locally transmitted and 23 were imported cases. On the same day, the number of suspected case tests was 35,948, with 34,615 tests conducted at temporary screening centers in the metropolitan area and 3,939 tests at temporary screening centers outside the metropolitan area, totaling 74,502 tests. At the temporary screening centers, 122 positive cases were confirmed in the metropolitan area and 8 in non-metropolitan areas.
By region, Seoul reported 256 cases, Gyeonggi 188, and Incheon 19, with more than half of the cases coming from the metropolitan area. Outside the metropolitan area, Daegu reported 39 cases, Daejeon 23, Busan and Gyeongnam 19 each, Ulsan, Gangwon, and Jeju 14 each, Jeonbuk and Jeonnam 10 each, Gyeongbuk 9, Chungnam 7, Gwangju and Chungbuk 5 each, and Sejong 3, with cases reported in all regions.
The cumulative death toll from COVID-19 increased by 2 from the previous day to 1,965. The number of critically ill patients decreased by 7 to 151. An additional 605 patients were declared recovered and released from isolation, bringing the total to 132,068.
Additionally, the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team reported that as of midnight on the same day, 591,322 people received vaccinations in one day. The number of new first-dose recipients increased by 565,377, bringing the total number of people who completed the first dose to 6,358,512. The number of new second-dose recipients increased by 25,945, with a cumulative total of 2,198,010. The vaccination rate relative to the population was 12.4% for the first dose and 4.3% for those fully vaccinated.
