View original imageThe Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee announced on the 1st that they have sent a letter to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) actively requesting mediation regarding the Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee's depiction of Dokdo as Japanese territory on its website map. On the same day, the two organizations held a meeting of related agencies chaired by Kim Jeong-bae, the 2nd Vice Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others, they discussed measures to correct Japan's depiction of Dokdo and strengthen South Korea's territorial sovereignty. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee had previously sent a letter on the 24th of last month to the Japanese Olympic Committee demanding correction of the Dokdo depiction. A representative stated, "Dokdo is clearly South Korean territory based on history, geography, and international law," and added, "We will closely cooperate with related agencies to strengthen our territorial sovereignty."
