As a result of analyzing the driving recorders of commercial vehicles that operated on three privately financed roads where traffic accident fatalities increased last year, jointly conducted by the Ministry and the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, risky driving behaviors by commercial vehicle drivers were detected at 2,416 points on the Cheonan-Nonsan route, 1,180 points on the Daegu-Busan route, and 1,546 points on the Sangju-Yeongcheon route. The Korea Transportation Safety Authority classifies 11 behaviors, including sudden acceleration, sudden deceleration, and sudden lane changes, as risky driving behaviors based on the analysis of the driving recorders.
Accordingly, since February, the Ministry and the private highway corporations have conducted on-site investigations targeting locations with frequent risky driving behaviors for two months and are implementing improvements by preparing customized traffic safety measures.
Looking at the main road safety improvement measures, on the Cheonan-Nonsan section, safety improvement measures such as inspection of already installed facilities at Nonsan JCT and Nampungse IC, extension of speed enforcement zones, and additional installation of enforcement cameras (with plans to add LED seagull signs) are being prepared.
On the Daegu-Busan section, in addition to inspecting facilities already installed at Dongdaegu IC and Nam Miryang IC, flash winkers (flashing red and blue warning lights) will be additionally installed at 12 points.
On the Sangju-Yeongcheon section, facilities already installed at Yeongcheon JCT and Hwasan JCT will be inspected, and deceleration guidance lanes and section enforcement cameras will be additionally installed at 16 points.
The Ministry plans to analyze the accident reduction effects on the three privately financed roads where improvement measures are being implemented and consider expanding them to other routes. Furthermore, it will actively promote traffic safety measures based on scientific methods such as big data analysis to create a safe road environment.
