Fell from the dining table... Neighbor mom watching the child changed her story to "fell from the 4th floor"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Soyoung] A 3-year-old child, who was temporarily left in the care of a neighbor with whom the family was close, fell from the 4th floor of a villa and was admitted to the intensive care unit with brain hemorrhage and other injuries, prompting the police to launch an investigation.
According to the Gyeongbuk Police Agency on the 31st, at around 10:20 a.m. on the 29th, a 3-year-old child fell from a window on the 4th floor of a villa in Gumi, Gyeongbuk, onto the ground outside.
The child's mother, Ms. A, who runs a nearby store, had temporarily left her child at the home of Ms. B, a close acquaintance, around 9 a.m. that day, and the accident reportedly occurred a little over an hour later.
As a result of the accident, the child is currently hospitalized in the intensive care unit with brain hemorrhage, damage to one lung, and bruises all over the body.
The Gumi Gangdong Hospital, where the child was initially treated, transferred the child to a university hospital in Daegu, which suspected child abuse and reported the case to the police.
During the police investigation, Ms. B initially stated, "The child fell while playing at the dining table," but when questioned further after the police reviewed nearby closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, she changed her statement to, "While feeding my own child formula, I went into the room and found Ms. A's child had fallen out the window next to the bed."
In response, Ms. A claimed, "If it had been said from the beginning that the child fell from the 4th floor, we would have immediately gone to the university hospital for a thorough examination. But since it was said the child fell from the dining table, we thought the child would recover quickly and went to a local hospital, missing the golden time."
She also pointed out, "They say Ms. B lied because she was scared, but I cannot believe that. If the child had fallen from the 4th floor, the 119 emergency service should have been called first, not informing her husband first. It is unreasonable to say that a timid child opened the screen window by themselves and jumped out."
