Intensive Promotion to Preemptively Block the Inflow of Fire Blight Disease in Orchards
Intensive Outbreak and Spread of Fire Blight Disease Nationwide Except Gyeongnam and Jeonnam
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] The Gyeongsangnam-do Agricultural Research and Extension Services announced on the 31st that it will designate June and July, the peak outbreak period of fire blight in fruit trees, as intensive promotion months.
This decision follows the upgrade of the quarantine pest fire blight alert level from 'Caution' to 'Warning.'
Recently, the area affected by fire blight has been increasing nationwide. Accordingly, Gyeongnam Province plans to strengthen publicity by putting up banners in major apple and pear production areas and educating farmers.
To prevent fire blight, it is crucial for farms to avoid entering orchards suspected of infection and to block the inflow of host plants from other provinces.
In addition, orchards should be kept clean, and people entering the orchards and farming tools must be disinfected, with frequent disinfection during farming operations.
For disinfecting farming tools, immerse them for more than 30 seconds in 70% alcohol or a diluted solution of sodium hypochlorite at 200 ppm or higher (20 times diluted detergent solution), or spray evenly with a sprayer.
