Promotion to Increase 75 Cybercrime Specialist Investigators
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] To respond to crimes related to virtual currencies, the police are planning to establish a dedicated team and increase the number of specialized investigators.
On the 31st, the National Police Agency stated in materials submitted to Kim Yong-pan, a member of the National Assembly's Public Administration and Security Committee from the People Power Party, that "dedicated financial crime investigation teams will be established at the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency and Busan Police Agency, and the National Police Agency will support virtual currency investigations."
The police are currently organizing dedicated investigation teams mainly through the intelligence teams of police stations nationwide to respond to virtual currency-related fraudulent solicitation crimes. The Cyber Terror Investigation Unit of the National Police Agency, consisting of 39 members, and the cybercrime investigation teams of 18 metropolitan and provincial police agencies nationwide, totaling 410 members, have been deployed.
Additionally, the National Police Agency has submitted a plan to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to increase the number of specialized cybercrime investigators by 75 at metropolitan and provincial police agencies nationwide next year.

Meanwhile, from 2017 to April of this year, the police have booked a total of 585 cases related to virtual currency crimes, involving 1,183 suspects.
