Nowon-gu Establishes Interdepartmental Collaboration System to Crack Down on Illegal Road Deposits and Unauthorized Waste Disposal Within 3 Hours...Creating a Safe Walking Environment for Vulnerable Pedestrians Including Elderly Using Walking Aids and Strollers
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Nowon-gu (District Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that it will strictly crack down on illegal storage and unauthorized dumping to improve the pedestrian environment and urban aesthetics.
Some roadside stores were displaying and selling goods on sidewalks or roadways, recklessly engaging in unauthorized storage of products and illegal parking, creating a lawless zone.
This not only detracted from the urban aesthetics but also posed a threat to pedestrian safety, leading to increasing demands from residents for active maintenance.
Accordingly, since April, the district has designated illegal activities related to expanded business operations on roads as a priority management target and launched a strong crackdown.
The main targets of the crackdown are ▲ unauthorized occupation of roads for expanded business operations ▲ unauthorized dumping of garbage from businesses onto roads ▲ using vehicles on roads to separate waste and conduct business activities.
To this end, 27 field inspectors have been deployed.
Additionally, the Urban Landscape Division, responsible for road occupancy and illegal storage, the Resource Circulation Division, in charge of unauthorized dumping, and local community centers familiar with neighborhood conditions have opened a joint work chat room to share situations and respond swiftly.
Through continuous patrols, illegal activities are identified and posted in the joint work chat room, where the responsible departments conduct guidance and crackdowns within three hours.
Recently, the district reorganized the areas around Gongneung Station and Madeul Station, where persistent complaints had been raised, conducted water cleaning, and installed 13 flowerpots. This prevents recurrence of illegal activities and creates a pleasant and safe walking space for general pedestrians as well as elderly residents using walking aids and residents with strollers.
Since 2018, the district has also revolutionized the neighborhood cleaning administration system. A total of 82 members of the self-support work project team and 165 participants in the Hope Job program are concentrated in the back alleys of general residential areas to conduct daily cleaning.
Furthermore, the unauthorized dumping crackdown team has been expanded to 15 members, conducting crackdowns across all areas, and the collection days for volume-based waste bags, food waste, recyclables, and large waste have been increased from three times a week to six times a week.
Along with improvements in the cleaning administration system, this focused crackdown is expected to enhance the cleanliness and pleasant urban image.
