[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] A man in his 40s, employee A, who worked at Naver headquarters, has taken his own life, and the labor union has expressed a position suggesting suspicions of workplace harassment.
On the 28th, the Naver labor union released a statement saying, "It is understood that the deceased experienced excessive work-related stress and harassment due to hierarchical pressure during his lifetime," adding, "If proven true, this is clearly a work-related injury."
They continued, "If there are parts where the deceased could not express his difficult situation due to institutional flaws in the company's personnel system and made a tragic choice, we will actively demand institutional improvements."
Additionally, the union stated, "We feel a deep sense of responsibility for having lost a colleague so suddenly," and "We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and will do our best to prevent such tragedies from happening in the future."
According to the Bundang Police Station in Gyeonggi Province on the same day, A was found dead near his residence close to Naver headquarters located in Bundang-gu, Seongnam City, on the 25th.
A note presumed to have been left by A was found at the scene, which reportedly contained content about the work-related stress he had been experiencing.
