Chungnam Establishes and Operates Forest Pest Prevention and Control Headquarters
[Asia Economy (Hongseong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Chungnam Province announced on the 27th that it will establish and operate a Forest Pest Monitoring and Control Headquarters until the end of August.
The headquarters will be set up at 17 locations, including Chungnam Provincial Office, the Forest Resources Research Institute, and 15 cities and counties within the province, to protect forest resources from the rapidly increasing forest pests caused by climate change. A budget of 10.1 billion KRW will be invested in forest pest control.
The province will first deploy 72 forest pest monitoring and control personnel to cities, counties, and business offices to conduct surveillance activities inside and around forests as well as in parks near residential areas to minimize forest damage caused by pests.
Additionally, efforts will focus on timely control of forest pests such as monitoring pine wilt disease, reporting and receiving suspected infected trees, managing quarantine restrictions, and controlling pine needle gall midges.
In particular, aerial pest control will be actively supported to improve the income of chestnut farmers who face difficulties in pest control work due to the aging rural workforce.
