Songpa-gu Awards 1 Million Won Scholarships to 32 Children of Community Leaders
Expanded Payments from High School to University Students Starting This Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Songpa-gu (Mayor Park Seong-su) will provide the ‘2021 Tongjang Children Scholarship’ to boost the morale of Tongjangs, who serve as a bridge between residents and administration.
For the selection of Tongjang children scholarship recipients, the district accepted applications from Tongjangs who have been in service for more than one year at each neighborhood office from April 12 to 20.
Students who are children of Tongjangs and have excellent academic performance or special talents were selected in the first round, and after eligibility screening including whether they received other scholarships, a total of 32 students were finally selected.
The scholarship will be paid to Tongjang children in the first and second half of the year, with a maximum amount of 1 million KRW per person. The first half scholarship is planned to be delivered by the end of May.
Last year, Songpa-gu revised related ordinances to specify detailed selection criteria for scholarship recipients. In particular, following the full implementation of free high school education, the scholarship eligibility was expanded to include high school and university students.
Mayor Park Seong-su said, “We hope this will boost the morale of the Tongjangs and help improve students’ academic achievement,” adding, “We will continue to show interest and support to strengthen the capabilities and improve the treatment of Tongjangs.”
