Incheon Saeodo Breathes New Life as a 'Mudflat Garden' Attraction
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Incheon City announced on the 23rd that it will promote a comprehensive development project to transform Seodo, a small island just 1.5 km from the inland, into a "mudflat garden."
Seodo, which belongs to Wonnchang-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon in terms of administrative districts, is near the city center but has poor residential conditions due to various restrictions such as accessibility, with only 24 households maintaining the island.
However, beautiful ecological resources such as mudflats, reed forests, and pine tree clusters are preserved throughout the island.
Accordingly, the city plans to promote the "Mudflat Garden Seodo Creation and Revitalization" project by utilizing Seodo's ecological resources and scenery.
The Seodo development plan is based on the "Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project" and linked with special situation area development projects, focusing on three main strategies: ▲ environmental maintenance of Seodo Port to improve fishing environment and accessibility ▲ environmental maintenance and improvement of residential conditions using island resources ▲ restoration of community spirit among residents and place marketing for Mudflat Garden Seodo.
The city will expand resting spaces for fishermen waiting to board for harbor safety and convenience, install durable access roads to create a safe bare-hand fishing environment, and promote the construction of ferries to improve accessibility.
Additionally, by designating urban planning roads, the city will establish grounds for legalizing unauthorized buildings within the village, improve village roads, create community centers as shared facilities, and improve the village water supply system (expanding seawater desalination wells) to enhance the village environment.
Furthermore, the city plans to actively promote Seodo's charm through resident community projects, storytelling on the Seodo trail, Incheon Mudflat Garden Seodo promotional marketing, and Seodo design development.
Meanwhile, on the 21st, Cho Taeksang, Deputy Mayor for Balanced Development of Incheon City, visited Seodo to inspect the site where the Fishing Village New Deal 300 Project and other initiatives are underway and reviewed the development strategies.
