Kim Ki-hyun: "We Must Use Roh's Legacy of Unity as a Milestone"
[Asia Economy Reporter Koo Chae-eun] Kim Ki-hyun, Acting Party Leader and Floor Leader of the People Power Party, attended the 12th anniversary memorial service for the late former President Roh Moo-hyun held on the 23rd at Bongha Village in Gimhae.
This marks the first time in five years that a party leader-level figure from a conservative party has attended the former president's memorial service since Jeong Jin-seok, then acting leader and floor leader of the Saenuri Party in 2016. As a floor leader, this is the second consecutive year attending, following Joo Ho-young, floor leader of the United Future Party last year.
When asked about his thoughts on attending the memorial service, Acting Leader Kim said, "I have returned to the site of painful history," emphasizing the significance of the People Power Party leadership's visit to Bongha Village. He added, "At a time when generous communication and the spirit of unity beyond factionalism are sorely missed, I hope we take the will left by the late President Roh Moo-hyun as our milestone."
At the memorial service, Acting Leader Kim exchanged greetings with the late president's wife, Kwon Yang-sook, as well as Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum, former Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun, and Yoo Si-min, chairman of the Roh Moo-hyun Foundation. Notably, Acting Leader Kim deeply bowed to Mrs. Kwon as she entered the venue and greeted her with a fist bump. He reportedly told Mrs. Kwon, "I will visit you occasionally."
