Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Announces '2021 Korea Public Architecture Awards' Contest Starting from the 24th
Public Architecture? Innovation Administration and Citizen Participation in 3 Categories... 11 Awards Including Prime Minister's Commendation
[Asia Economy Reporter Kangwook Cho] The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 23rd that it will hold the '2021 Korea Public Architecture Awards' contest to discover cases that have made efforts to create or improve excellent public architecture and to share their achievements.
The contest targets three categories: public architecture, innovative administration, and public participation, with a total of 11 commendations awarded to ordering organizations that have contributed to the creation of public architecture.
Started in 2007 and now in its 15th year, the Public Architecture Awards are recognized not only for discovering the creative efforts and achievements of ordering parties but also for significantly contributing to establishing public architecture as an important element that communicates with local residents and enhances quality of life.
The judging committee, composed of experts from academia and industry, will conduct the evaluation. Detailed information regarding judging criteria by category and the list of judges will be disclosed through the contest guidelines.
In the 'Public Architecture' category, awards will be given to departments of ordering organizations that have provided high-quality public services to local residents through dedicated efforts and leading roles in spreading high-class public buildings and spatial environments. Approximately 9 awards will be given, including one Prime Minister's Commendation and three Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Commendations.
The 'Innovative Administration' category awards will be given to departments of organizations that have achieved work innovation to improve the quality of public buildings or have ideas currently being pursued. Two Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Commendations will be awarded.
The 'Public Participation' category is open to anyone in the public, with the theme of 'Good Public Architecture as I Think' or 'Special Public Architecture I Experienced.' Participants can submit essays, videos, card news, and other various formats.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport will provide gift certificates worth approximately 1.3 million KRW to five winners selected as the grand prize and excellence awards without a separate award ceremony, and will send gifticons worth 10,000 KRW to 10 participants selected by lottery.
Applications can be submitted from the 24th until June 22. Submissions for the public architecture and innovative administration categories can be sent via official documents or to the person in charge's email, and submissions for the public participation category can be made through the 2021 Public Architecture Awards website (www.molit.go.kr/2021publicbuilding).
