Moriya Jutanugarn (Thailand) surged with a 6-under-par on the third day of the Pure Silk Championship (total prize money $1.3 million) held at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia, USA (par 71, 6,445 yards) on the 23rd (Korean time), instantly taking the top spot on the leaderboard with a 10-under-par total of 203 strokes. Shih Wei-ling (Taiwan) is tied for the lead, and Jessica Korda (USA), the 2021 season opener Diamond Resort Tournament champion, is tied for 3rd place, one stroke behind at 9-under-par 204 strokes.
Moriya made an eagle on the 7th hole (par 5), along with five birdies and one bogey. It is interesting that her younger sister, Ariya Jutanugarn, won the Honda LPGA Thailand on the 9th, marking her first victory in 2 years and 10 months since winning the Scottish Women's Open in July 2018. They are aiming for a rare record of the third-ever 'sister back-to-back wins.' The previous instances were Annika and Charlotta Sorenstam (both Sweden) in March 2000, followed by Jessica and Nelly Korda (USA) this season.
