[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] The police are conducting an investigation, having secured witnesses who saw an unidentified man enter the river on the day university student Son Jeong-min (22) went missing. In addition, they are searching for clues to explain why Son entered the river through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, but questions remain unresolved.
According to the police on the 22nd, the Seocho Police Station in Seoul has secured witnesses who saw an unidentified man enter the Han River around 4:40 a.m. on the 25th of last month, the day Son went missing, and is verifying whether there is any connection to Son’s disappearance.
The witnesses were part of a group fishing about 80 meters away from the suspected entry point near the water taxi dock at Banpo Hangang Park from around 10 p.m. on the 24th to about 5 a.m. the next day. The police also conducted an on-site investigation. Among the witnesses, five saw the man walking into the river near the Banpo Hangang Park water taxi dock as if swimming, and two heard splashing sounds along with voices saying “Ah, uh.” However, they did not see the man come out of the water and did not report the incident to the fire department or other authorities.
Despite the appearance of witnesses, the identity of the unidentified man who entered the river remains unknown. The police believe there may be others who saw similar scenes near the left side of the entry point, around Banpodaegyo Bridge and Jamsugyo Bridge, and are searching for additional witnesses. They are also verifying the identities of six men who remain missing among the 63 missing persons reports filed with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency between the 24th and 25th of last month.
The police are tracking Son’s movements based on black box footage from 154 vehicles parked at the Han River Park at the time and footage from 45 nearby CCTVs, but the situation remains unclear.

Furthermore, the search for friend A’s cellphone has continued but it has not been found. A’s cellphone was identified as a key clue that could resolve suspicions about the day Son went missing, but its whereabouts remain unknown. Although A was carrying Son’s cellphone, A’s cellphone was not found on Son’s body recovered from the Han River.
