183 Confirmed Cases in Seoul by 6 PM... 41 Fewer Than a Week Ago
[Asia Economy Reporter Junhyung Lee] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that from midnight to 6 p.m. on the 21st, there were 183 new confirmed COVID-19 cases in Seoul over an 18-hour period.
Compared to the same time frame, this is 42 more cases than the previous day (20th) with 141 cases, and 41 fewer than a week ago (14th) when there were 224 cases. The total number of confirmed cases for the entire day was 172 on the 20th and 254 on the 14th of this month.
Since the beginning of this month, the daily number of confirmed cases in Seoul has generally been in the 200s, but tends to drop to the 100s on weekends, early weekdays, or the day after holidays. From the 6th to the 20th of this month, over the recent fifteen days, Seoul averaged 209 confirmed cases per day with 32,898 people tested.
On the 20th, the number of tests conducted in Seoul was 38,060, about twice the number on the holiday of the 19th (19,510 tests). As of 6 p.m. that day, among the new confirmed cases, 3 were imported cases from overseas, and the remaining 180 were domestic infections.
Regarding cluster infections, there were 4 cases from a Northeast area acquaintance gathering, 2 from a metropolitan area acquaintance and family gathering, 2 from a religious facility in Eunpyeong-gu, 2 from the Garak Agricultural and Marine Products Wholesale Market in Songpa-gu, 2 from workplaces in Songpa-gu, and 15 from other cluster infections.
Separately from cluster infections, 102 cases were confirmed to have had contact with existing confirmed patients, and 51 cases are under investigation due to unclear infection routes.
