The government awards were held by the Ministry of Justice to commemorate the 14th Anniversary of the World Day of Foreigners, and the Dongdaemun-gu Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center was honored in the organization category for its contribution to supporting the settlement of foreign residents in the local community and social integration.
Since being selected as the first pilot center for multicultural projects in Seoul nationwide in 2006, the Dongdaemun-gu Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center has exemplary performed the role of a delivery system for multicultural family projects.
In addition to welfare services for multicultural families and foreign residents, the center actively supports the stable settlement of migrant families through various and distinctive projects.
In particular, since 2015, by utilizing local networks for resource linkage, the center has been conducting ‘Visiting Korean Language Mentoring Service and Korean Life Adaptation Support Service’ for low-income foreign families and youth who immigrated during adolescence, actively identifying blind spots in multicultural fields and continuing efforts to expand beneficiaries.
Also, despite the COVID-19 situation, the Dongdaemun-gu Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center has played a leading role in real-time online programs by establishing various platforms to fill welfare gaps, distributing translated COVID-19 prevention guidelines and response instructions in 13 languages to the public, and supporting online learning for elementary school children, receiving positive evaluations for its swift response in crisis situations.
