Lee In-young: "The ROK-US Summit Should Be an Opportunity to Accelerate the Korean Peninsula Peace Process"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Minister of Unification Lee In-young expressed hope that the US-Korea summit would "provide an opportunity to advance the timetable for the resumption of the Korean Peninsula peace process."
At the congratulatory speech at the '2021 DMZ Forum' held on the 21st at KINTEX in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, Minister Lee said, "At a time when the US's review of its North Korea policy has just concluded and its outline is emerging, the Korean Peninsula stands at a crossroads to take another step forward in the history of peace."
Minister Lee stated, "I believe that peace beginning on the Korean Peninsula, which has experienced the most intense wars and confrontations, can deliver a powerful message of hope for reconciliation and cooperation worldwide," adding, "We will seek to realize a life and safety community on the Korean Peninsula centered around the DMZ and border areas."

He continued, "Regarding infectious diseases such as COVID-19 crossing the inter-Korean border, as well as pests, wildfires, floods, and climate and environmental issues, the interests of the South and North are not different," and added, "If infrastructure and cooperative systems for joint response by the South and North are established in the border areas, the Korean Peninsula can be reborn as a safer and more secure place to live."
