Changgyeonggung Chingyeongrye Ceremony, Simplified Without Visitors Again This Year
The Cultural Heritage Administration's Palace and Royal Tombs Headquarters and the Rural Development Administration's National Institute of Crop Science will conduct rice planting at 11 a.m. on the 24th at Cheonguijeong by Okryucheon in Changdeokgung Palace. This event reflects on the meaning of Chingyeongrye (親耕禮). Chingyeongrye refers to the farming performed by the Joseon Dynasty kings themselves in cultivated fields created around the palace to pray for a bountiful harvest and to emphasize the importance of agriculture. This event has been held annually for residents of Jongno-gu and the general public. However, to prevent the spread of COVID-19, it will be held simply again this year on a day when the palace is closed, following last year's practice.
