Magnitude 6.6 Earthquake Off the West Coast of Sumatra Island, Indonesia
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Eunbyeol] A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 occurred off the western coast of Sumatra Island, Indonesia, at around 12:30 PM on the 14th (local time), according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The epicenter was located in the sea near Nias Island, 430.9 km away from Padang, the capital of West Sumatra Province, with a focal depth of 10 km. No tsunami warning was issued.

The Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) measured the earthquake magnitude significantly higher than the USGS. BMKG reported the magnitude of this earthquake as 7.2. So far, no reports of damage caused by this earthquake have appeared on Indonesian social media (SNS) or in the press.
