This meeting, the first since the formation of the 2nd City Administration Advisory Council, was attended by about 50 members who shared major city administration issues and exchanged opinions.
The 2nd City Administration Advisory Council is composed of 77 members who confirmed their willingness to participate among past recipients of the Citizen Award, with a term of two years (March 2021 to March 2023).
At this meeting, the results of proposals made at the 5th General Meeting, the response situation after the local outbreak of COVID-19, and the progress of major projects such as GGM (Gwangju Global Motors) were shared. Discussions were also held on the selection of Citizen Award recipients and the inclusion of the Dalbit Inland Railway in the 4th National Railroad Network Plan.
The advisory members advised, “The Gwangju community has overcome the COVID-19 crisis with one heart,” and added, “To wisely overcome future crises, it is necessary to carefully look after the frontline workers in quarantine so that they do not become exhausted.”
Regarding city administration issues, they said, “Although Gwangju’s innovative policies are bearing fruit, some trial and error has occurred,” and urged, “Please strive to ensure that the efforts of the united Gwangju community lead to the development of Gwangju.”
In particular, the members also conducted verification work on candidates for the 35th Gwangju Citizen Award.
Since last year, opinions from advisory members have been gathered for the Gwangju Citizen Award candidates, and this year, the selection process is being conducted through internet recommendations and submissions via the Gwangju City website, as well as public verification of candidates.
Additionally, they strongly urged the inclusion of the Dalbit Inland Railway, which is being promoted with the hopes of residents from the Yeongnam and Honam regions, in the 4th National Railroad Network Plan.
The members stated, “The Dalbit Inland Railway, a campaign pledge of President Moon Jae-in and necessary for overcoming regionalism, promoting East-West harmony, and revitalizing the southern regional metropolitan economic zone, must be included in the 4th National Railroad Network Plan,” and added, “All citizens must unite to ensure its inclusion in the national railroad network plan.”
Choi Sang-jun, chairman of the City Administration Advisory Council, said, “Despite the crisis of COVID-19, GGM, a Gwangju-type job project, has been completed, reflecting the tireless efforts of Gwangju City,” and added, “Going forward, the City Administration Advisory Council will play a role in leading Gwangju’s leap forward with experience and wisdom.”
