[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Saeyan] Gyeongsangnam-do will conduct the 'Gayaro Bicycle Tour' over two days on the 14th and 15th.
At the departure ceremony held on the 14th at the Gimhae Daeseong-dong Ancient Tomb Museum, Governor Kim Kyung-soo and about 50 people including mayors and county heads from five regions with Gaya ancient tomb clusters (Gimhae, Haman, Goseong, Hapcheon) attended.
The bicycle tour group of 44 consists of 40 cycling enthusiasts and 4 female cyclists from the Gyeongnam Sports Council women's cycling team. After the departure ceremony, they will ride a 172 km course over one night and two days, starting from Gimhae Daeseong-dong Ancient Tomb Cluster, passing through Goseong Songhak-dong Ancient Tomb Cluster, Haman Malsan Ancient Tomb Cluster, Changnyeong Gyodong and Songhyeon-dong Ancient Tomb Clusters, and ending at Hapcheon Okjeon Ancient Tomb Cluster.
The province will also conduct various non-face-to-face programs alongside the bicycle tour. First, from the 14th until the 30th of next month, a non-face-to-face visit certification event will be held so that anyone can visit the Gaya ancient tomb clusters remotely.
Participants can check the tour course through the Facebook page 'Gayaro Bicycle Tour', visit each ancient tomb cluster course by walking or cycling, and then post their GPS records and certification photos on their own SNS.
The Gaya ancient tomb clusters, currently being pursued for World Heritage registration, consist of seven ancient tomb clusters in seven cities and counties across Yeongnam and Honam regions. In December 2013, three ancient tomb clusters?Gimhae Daeseong-dong, Haman Malsan, and Goryeong Jisandong?were listed on the tentative World Heritage list, and in January 2019, four more clusters?Changnyeong Gyodong and Songhyeon-dong, Goseong Songhak-dong, Hapcheon Okjeon, and Namwon Yugok-ri and Durak-ri?were added.
Subsequently, all seven ancient tomb clusters were finally selected as candidates for World Heritage registration in September last year. From the second half of this year to the first half of next year, evaluations by UNESCO advisory bodies will take place, and the final decision on registration will be made by the World Heritage Committee in July next year.
