Damyang Office of Education Holds Multicultural Education Support Council Meeting
[Damyang=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 14th, Damyang Office of Education announced that on the 13th, it held a council meeting to support multicultural education for 40 people including vice principals and teachers in charge of elementary and middle schools in the district, Jeonnam International Education Institute, and officials from Damyang-gun Healthy Family and Multicultural Family Support Center.
This council meeting was organized as a time to minimize educational gaps in the blind spots of education for students from multicultural families due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and to seek customized educational support plans tailored to individual students so that they can grow confidently in society.
An official from the Jeonnam International Education Institute’s multicultural education department emphasized the importance of multicultural sensitivity education that respects interculturality for all students without distinguishing or separating multiculturalism, in order to create a multicultural educational environment where diversity coexists.
They continued by stressing that multicultural education should be developed as integrated multicultural education linked with school curricula, classes, and daily life centered on students from multicultural families, and hoped that teacher training programs would be operated with diversified methods and content.
Also, despite the COVID-19 situation last year, they shared practical support cases and educational programs for language development guidance for students from multicultural families in the language formation period due to mothers with insufficient Korean skills, having a meaningful time to share, implement, and unite multicultural education with teachers.
