'More Comfortable Than Private Cars'... Gyeonggi-do Develops 'Bus Infrastructure'
Expansion and Improvement of Public Bus Depots, Electric Bus Charging Facilities, Bus Stop Shelters, and Convenience Facilities
[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] Gyeonggi Province is set to expand and improve bus infrastructure, including bus garages, stops, and terminals within the province.
On the 12th, the province announced that it will invest a total of 45.3 billion KRW to carry out projects across four areas: expanding public bus garages, improving garages, upgrading bus stops, and renovating aging terminals.
This year, the projects will be implemented as pilot initiatives, with a comprehensive evaluation of the outcomes to gradually expand the projects starting next year.
Additionally, to concretize the project plans through 2025, the province is currently conducting a "Study on Establishing Basic Plans for Bus Infrastructure Development and Management."
From this year through 2024, the province plans to invest a total of 84 billion KRW to establish one additional public bus garage each in Goyang and Pyeongtaek.
Furthermore, 5 billion KRW will be invested to secure rest conditions for transportation workers and to support the expansion of eco-friendly electric buses aimed at reducing fine dust.
Bus stop convenience facilities will also undergo major improvements. With a total budget of 7.9 billion KRW, shelters will be installed or replaced at 169 bus stops, and heated seats, heating and cooling systems, and Bus Information Terminal (BIT) systems will be expanded at 364 stops.

In addition, Suwon Bus Terminal has been selected as a pilot project site, with 1.36 billion KRW allocated to remodel the waiting hall and improve and expand convenience facilities.
