"Providing Necessary Data to Those in Need" Ministry of the Interior and Safety Introduces Recommendation Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] A service that searches or recommends public data to help entrepreneurs who have business ideas but face difficulties in securing data will be introduced.
On the 10th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that it will implement a 'Public Data Curation Service' to enable users to effectively secure the data they need from the data opened through the Public Data Portal.
'Public Data Curation' is a service designed to support users as it becomes increasingly difficult to find necessary data due to the growing number of open data.
In fact, the number of data opened through the Public Data Portal increased 10.6 times from 5,000 in 2013 to 56,000 as of April 2021. However, in the 'Public Data Utilization Enterprise Survey' conducted last year, 33.3% of respondent companies answered that they do not use public data because they 'do not know how to secure and utilize public data.'
Accordingly, the newly introduced Public Data Curation Service provides entrepreneurs who have difficulty finding or utilizing public data with one-on-one consultations with data experts to search for necessary data or recommend data suitable for their business ideas.
Additionally, the service offers learning on how to interpret data and guidance on data utilization cases. For some companies entering advanced stages of public data utilization, support will also be provided for diagnosing the level of public data utilization and establishing business strategies using public data.
This service is expected to reduce the cost and time users spend exploring data. It is especially anticipated to be useful for prospective entrepreneurs who are not familiar with using public data.
Applications for service support can be made from the 11th to the 25th through the Public Data Portal (www.data.go.kr). Any company or prospective entrepreneur wishing to develop services using public data can apply, and after evaluation by a review committee on the requested content and business plan, the scope of necessary service support will be determined and the service will proceed.
Meanwhile, since April, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety has also been operating a 'Recommended Data' service through the Public Data Portal, where users can check information on data with many utilization cases or high potential for future use by specific themes.
