Jeonnam Police Expand Implementation of 'Customized Flexible Patrol'
Encouraging Active Participation of Residents
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] With the full implementation of the autonomous police system scheduled for July, the need for policing activities tailored to local circumstances has increased.
The Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency announced on the 9th that it has been expanding the customized flexible patrol, which approaches local residents first according to the local conditions, based on the 'flexible patrol' system implemented since September 2017.
Flexible patrol is a policing service that reflects the demands of local residents by prioritizing patrols based on the time and place requested by residents, 112 emergency reports, and crime occurrences. It is a policing policy suitable for the autonomous police system.
Since the implementation of flexible patrols, theft incidents have decreased by 11.5%, and the public's perceived safety has improved by 5.15%, showing positive effects as residents' opinions were reflected in police activities.
The police are informing the public to actively reflect local residents' demands by expanding contact with residents through attending village chief meetings, considering that 23.5% of the Jeonnam region's population is aged 65 or older and that many rural and fishing villages make it difficult to visit police stations.
Additionally, they are promoting effective flexible patrols by linking with programs such as 'local safety patrols,' which operate dedicated officers to proactively identify and solve problems through contact with local residents, and 'big data crime analysis.'
Flexible patrols can be requested at police station civil service offices or local police substations, and non-face-to-face applications are also possible via the online patrol request portal or the police civil complaint phone number 182.
