Visit to Market Kurly Gimpo Distribution Logistics Center... Urging Quarantine Management, Innovation, and Win-Win Cooperation
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Moon Seung-wook, the newly appointed Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy, has been actively visiting field sites immediately after his inauguration. Skipping the inauguration ceremony, he rushed to a semiconductor site as his first schedule, and on his first holiday after taking office, he visited Market Kurly, the 'originator' of dawn delivery, to inspect the distribution and logistics industry.
On the morning of the 9th, Minister Moon visited Market Kurly's Gimpo distribution and logistics center to review the industry's quarantine management situation amid the COVID-19 pandemic and to listen to opinions from the field. While inspecting the quarantine site at the distribution and logistics center, he emphasized ▲thorough quarantine management ▲sustainable innovation and development ▲and mutual growth through win-win cooperation.
Minister Moon stated, "Thorough quarantine management amid the COVID-19 situation is the driving force for quickly restoring economic vitality and daily life," and urged, "The distribution and logistics industry is an essential industry like capillaries directly connected to consumers and the daily lives of the people. Please take special responsibility and ensure strict compliance and implementation of quarantine rules."
He identified innovation and coexistence as the most important tasks for the distribution industry.
He said, "The government will spare no support to spread digital innovation in the distribution industry along with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) corporate management," adding, "Along with innovation, the most important task in the distribution industry is coexistence. Innovation should be promoted through communication and cooperation among stakeholders to overcome crises and expand mutual growth." He also asked online distributors to contribute to mutual growth through win-win cooperation by discovering and selling many high-quality excellent products from local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and supporting SMEs and farmers and fishermen who face difficulties in securing sales channels.
Minister Moon emphasized, "While efficiency and digitalization of distribution and logistics are necessary, the most important thing is 'people,'" and urged, "Please also strive to improve working conditions so that all workers can work safely and happily."

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy has been operating a triple-layered quarantine management system since the end of last year and the beginning of this year, including daily self-inspections by the distribution industry (first layer), continuous inspections by local governments (second layer), and sample inspections by the ministry (third layer). In preparation for May, the month of family when foot traffic increases, it was designated as a 'special quarantine management week' starting from the 26th of last month, and the inspection frequency, including department heads, was expanded from three times a week to three times a day. Quarantine meetings with the distribution industry are also held regularly.
