US Largest Pipeline Company Halts Operations at All Facilities Following Cyberattack
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] Colonial Pipeline, the largest operator of oil refined product pipelines in the United States, halted operations at all its facilities after a cyberattack on the 7th (local time).
According to major foreign media on the 8th, Colonial Pipeline switched its systems offline after detecting the cyberattack the previous day. This caused a temporary suspension of system operations and reportedly affected IT systems as well.
Colonial Pipeline has begun investigating the attack through a cybersecurity firm and is in contact with relevant agencies and the federal government.
Colonial Pipeline receives products from refining facilities in the Gulf region. Its main products include gasoline, diesel, refined products, and aviation fuel.
It also owns pipelines connecting New York, the largest city in the United States, and the eastern region.
