‘Do-ing,’ which encourages the practice of knowledge and accumulates wisdom through practice, brought together different people in one neighborhood. On this day, ‘Do-ing’ was a volunteer activity to dispel the shadow of COVID-19.
Dongmyung University, Daejin Passenger Co., Ltd. Volunteer Group, J2 System, and Bansong 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center participated in the ‘2021 Warm Busan Disinfection and Quarantine Volunteer Activity.’
Eight students from Dongmyung University’s LINC+ Project Group (Director Shin Dong-seok) and the Department of Automotive Engineering (Department Head Oh Gap-seok), five volunteers from Daejin Passenger Co., Ltd., two from J2 System, and volunteers from Bansong 2-dong Administrative Welfare Center visited 24 homes of elderly living alone in Bansong 2-dong, Haeundae-gu, Busan, from 1 p.m. for four hours on the 6th.
They carried disinfectant tanks and sprayers on their shoulders and held quarantine sprays in their hands. In the hands that wiped away viruses from every corner of the rooms of elderly people living alone without any support, the youth were cultivating the fruits of their thoughts.
Jeon Ho-hwan, president of Dongmyung University, is promoting ‘Do-ing Talent Development’ as the university’s goal. Students are running into the field to spread and internalize ‘Do-ing.’ This is the current story of Dongmyung University.
The volunteers carefully inspected the site and facilities first, then received training on fog sterilizers, disinfection equipment, and disinfectants, followed by preparing quarantine equipment and protective suits.
Since the COVID-19 outbreak, the health center staff’s daily broadcasts were replaced on this day by volunteers playing the leading role.
Two teams were divided into the Upper Bansong-ro and New Bansong-ro areas. Each team carried out disinfection and quarantine volunteer activities at 24 homes of elderly living alone.
As part of ‘Making Warm Busan,’ this was a volunteer activity supporting disinfection and quarantine for elderly living alone in Bansong 2-dong who are struggling due to COVID-19.
Seung-jun Lee, a third-year student in the Department of Automotive Engineering, said, “I expected the elderly living alone to be in difficult circumstances, but I didn’t realize their living environment was this poor,” adding, “Encouragement from those around me that even small efforts can make a big difference gave me greater strength.”
J2 System (CEO Park Joo-je), a specialist in air conditioning and disinfection care, provided disinfection and quarantine education and practice for the volunteers.
The volunteer group of Daejin Passenger Co., Ltd. (CEO Cho Hyun-wook), led by Park Tae-gyun, signed an agreement with Bansong 2-dong in 2017 and has been installing fire alarms and LEDs free of charge for the underprivileged in the Bansong area.
Since 2010, 113 people including the CEO and crew members have participated, donating over 74 million KRW to the Bansong area by last year. In 2017, they received the Gold Award from the ‘Fruit of Love’ Foundation and have become known as a ‘Good Bus Company’ in Busan city.
