Statistics Korea Holds Online Launch Ceremony for 'University Student Statistical Education Volunteer Group'
[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Son Seon-hee] The Statistics Korea announced on the 7th that it held the online launching ceremony for the 7th University Student Statistics Education Talent Donation Group.
According to Statistics Korea, this launching ceremony was held for about one hour through an online video conferencing platform to comply with COVID-19 quarantine measures. Statistics Korea selected 48 teams (a total of 243 members) for the University Student Statistics Education Talent Donation Group. There are 14 teams from Seoul, Incheon, and Gyeonggi; 13 teams from Busan, Daegu, and Gyeongsang; 8 teams from Gwangju, Jeolla, and Jeju; 11 teams from Daejeon, Sejong, and Chungcheong; and 2 teams from Gangwon.
The talent donation group plans to visit elementary, middle, and high schools that applied for statistics education and provide customized statistics education during class hours, after-school learning, Saturday schools, and vacation camps. As interest in statistics education is increasing in frontline educational sites, Statistics Korea plans to expand related talent donation activities in the future.

At the online launching ceremony, Ryu Geun-gwan, Commissioner of Statistics Korea, said in a video greeting, "In modern society, the ability to utilize statistics is essential," and urged, "Please do your best to guide students so that they can easily understand and effectively use statistics."
