Naver Users 'Boiling Mad' Over Early End of Blog Event
[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] Naver is facing backlash after abruptly announcing the early termination of an event for blog users.
On the 4th, Naver stated, "We have regrettably decided to end the '#TodayDiary Challenge' that started on the 1st earlier than planned."
From the 1st to the 14th, Naver held an event called 'Daily Challenge #Today Diary,' where users who posted diary entries on their blogs for two weeks were rewarded with 16,000 won in Naver Pay. Users received 1,000 won after 3 days, 5,000 won after 10 days, and an additional 10,000 won if they continued writing until the 14th. Naver organized this event to capture the growing number of blog users and reactivate the service.
However, with Naver’s announcement of the early termination, user dissatisfaction surged. One user said, "I was happy to relive memories by using the blog again, but suddenly I feel deceived," adding, "My trust in Naver has significantly declined." Some users even posted complaints on the Blue House petition board.
Regarding the reason for the early termination, Naver explained, "The event aimed to encourage users to record their genuine daily diaries, but there were too many participants abusing the system by copying and pasting posts using multiple IDs." Nonetheless, this explanation has sparked debate. Another user commented, "They should have just caught the abusers instead of irresponsibly handling the situation," and added, "Blaming users is also unpleasant."

Naver expressed its intention to reorganize through internal review. A Naver representative said, "Technically, it was beyond our limits to catch all the abnormal posts, which led to this decision," and added, "We apologize to the users who participated sincerely and will carefully refine the system."
