The COVID-19 Vaccination Damage Investigation Committee held its 10th meeting on the 30th to review reports of severe adverse reactions, including deaths, and examined the causal relationship with the vaccine. As a result of the review of 13 deaths and 12 severe cases, it was decided that all cases except one severe case showed no causal relationship.
The average age of the death cases was 81 years, and all had underlying medical conditions. The average time from vaccination to death was 5.7 days. The committee comprehensively evaluated medical records regarding underlying conditions, medical history, and clinical progression from vaccination to death. The review concluded that the cases were highly likely to have died from preceding causes related to old age, underlying diseases, and systemic conditions (such as aspiration pneumonia, atherosclerosis, urinary tract infection, gastrointestinal perforation, cirrhosis, etc.), and ultimately it was difficult to recognize a causal relationship between vaccination and death.
However, four cases currently undergoing autopsy by the National Forensic Service will be re-evaluated after the final autopsy results are confirmed.
The average age of the 12 severe cases was 75 years, and all had underlying medical conditions. The average time from vaccination to symptom onset was 5.4 days. Among the severe cases, 11 were judged to have a higher likelihood of adverse reactions caused by factors other than vaccination, considering underlying diseases, systemic conditions, and the incidence rates of related diseases in the general population.
One case suspected of anaphylactic shock after vaccination accompanied by pneumonia and heart failure will be re-reviewed after additional data is supplemented.

Meanwhile, a total of 10 meetings of the Vaccination Damage Investigation Committee have reviewed 67 death cases and 57 severe cases so far. Among these, only two cases were recognized as having a causal relationship between adverse reactions and vaccination: one diagnosed with cerebral venous sinus thrombosis and one with hypotension caused by seizures following fever.
