Chonnam National University Startup Incubation Center Selected as Best Institution for 9 Consecutive Years
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Gwan-woo] Chonnam National University announced on the 30th that it has been selected as the ‘Best Institution’ for nine consecutive years in the management evaluation of the Startup Incubation Center by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups.
Chonnam National University’s Startup Incubation Center received the highest ‘S grade’ in this year’s recent evaluation, marking its selection as the ‘Best Institution’ for nine consecutive years since 2012.
Along with this, the ‘Incubation Capacity Enhancement Support Project’ conducted simultaneously was also selected with excellent results, enabling support for strengthening the business capabilities of companies.
The Ministry of SMEs and Startups evaluates the management performance of 252 startup incubation centers nationwide every year and provides differentiated government support funds. In this management evaluation, which focused on the institution’s startup support expertise and startup infrastructure, Chonnam National University received consistently high scores in all categories.
Resident companies at Chonnam National University’s Startup Incubation Center include Southpaw Games Co., Ltd., which is rapidly growing after winning the Indie Game Award for developing ‘Skul: The Hero Slayer’ at the ‘Korea Game Awards 2020,’ CNQ Co., Ltd., which secured 6.5 billion KRW in investment by developing a bacterial platform technology for cancer treatment, and Invirus Tech Co., Ltd., which is developing virus diagnostic kits with a total of 2.7 billion KRW in research and development funds.
Chonnam National University’s Startup Incubation Center has been continuously discovering and nurturing prospective technology entrepreneurs since 2010.
In Gwangju Metropolitan City’s ‘2021 Customized Support Project for Prospective Entrepreneurs by Generation,’ it had the highest number in the region with 11 selected individuals, and it also received the best evaluation among universities located in the Gwangju Research and Development Special Zone for the ‘Innopolis Campus Project’ conducted to discover and nurture technology entrepreneurs, thereby being recognized for its excellence as a regional hub startup specialized institution.
Min Jeong-jun, Director of Industry-Academia Cooperation Foundation, said, “Together with the newly established Startup Support Headquarters this year, we will focus the university’s capabilities to support resident companies of the Startup Incubation Center to succeed.”

Meanwhile, Chonnam National University’s Startup Incubation Center currently houses about 100 startup companies, including young entrepreneurs and prospective technology entrepreneurs, actively engaging in business activities.
