Jeon Ho-hwan, former president of Pusan National University and standing chairman of the Southeast Regional Development Council, was officially inaugurated as the 10th president of Dongmyung University on the 28th after receiving his appointment certificate from Dongmyung Cultural Foundation (Chairman Seo Ui-taek).
President Jeon’s term will last four years, until April 27, 2025. The inauguration ceremony is scheduled to be held in May.
How to revive regional universities in crisis has long drawn attention to President Jeon Ho-hwan’s heavy mission and his plans for university innovation.
On the first day of his term, President Jeon declared that he would spread the value of the newly planned “Do-ing University” at Dongmyung University, focusing on nurturing “practical intellectuals” throughout the entire campus.
He emphasized that all faculty, staff, and students should promote flexible and bold reformist practices (Doing) to overcome the crisis.
President Jeon has advocated cultivating Do-ing talents who possess the ability to thrive in any world, like soccer player Son Heung-min.
The innovative curriculum offers a glimpse of Do-ing University’s character. Reading 100 classic masterpieces, horseback riding and various sports, climbing Korea’s top 100 famous mountains, and singing 100 foreign language songs break down fixed ideas about university courses handled by academic departments.
As Korea’s first innovative curriculum, the Do-ing University with three “no’s” ? no grade levels, no credits, and no teaching ? will be established at Dongmyung University next year. President Jeon led the establishment of this new college with a capacity of 90 students.
On the 26th, President Jeon also promoted Do-ing University at the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education’s “Declaration Ceremony for Practicing the Value of Sports in Daily Life.” Alongside Seoul Mayor of Education Cho Hee-yeon and IOC member Yoo Seung-min, he used the event and media to inform the nation about the educational meaning and direction of Do-ing University.
Currently, President Jeon is actively involved in various roles including ▲Member of the National Education Council ▲Chairman of the Higher and Vocational Education Reform Committee of the National Education Council ▲Co-Representative of the Busan Global Forum ▲Judge for the Inchon Award (Science and Technology Division) ▲Member of the Korean Academy of Engineering ▲Vice Chairman of the Korea National Open University Operating Committee.
