View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Yoon Hojung, the floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea and emergency committee chairman, appealed to the People Power Party on the 28th to join a joint parliamentary resolution to withdraw the discharge of contaminated water from Fukushima into the ocean.
At the emergency committee meeting held at the National Assembly that day, Chairman Yoon said, "The Fukushima contaminated water issue is a matter where our ecosystem and public safety must take precedence over party interests."
He emphasized, "The National Assembly must respond with a united voice to revoke the Japanese government's unilateral decision," adding, "The Democratic Party has been promoting the joint proposal of a resolution by seven parliamentary parties calling for the withdrawal of the Fukushima contaminated water ocean discharge."

He continued, "There can be no distinction between ruling and opposition parties in the will to protect the safety of the people, so I once again appeal for the participation of the People Power Party," and added, "If only the People Power Party agrees, a resolution involving all parliamentary parties can be promptly proposed. I hope this resolution will establish the tradition of the National Assembly working together across party lines for the safety of the people."
