On the 28th, Kia announced that it received the top Leadership A grade in both the climate change and water resources categories at the '2020 CDP Korea Award' held at the Glad Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul.
Kia, participating for the first time this year in the water resource management category, achieved the highest score along with the Leadership A grade, becoming the first in the automotive industry to receive the grand prize.
In the climate change category, Kia received the Leadership A grade for the second consecutive year following 2019 and was selected for the Carbon Management Honors Club, which recognizes the top five companies based on evaluation scores.
Kia was recognized in this evaluation for its eco-friendly management activities, including ▲leading the expansion of the eco-friendly vehicle market ▲introducing and improving high-efficiency equipment in production processes ▲transparent disclosure of carbon emissions information ▲implementation of a zero-discharge wastewater system at the India plant ▲and pioneering carbon management promotion plans.
CDP is recognized as one of the most credible global organizations evaluating sustainability management worldwide. Acting on behalf of global financial investment institutions, CDP evaluates major listed companies in each country on their responses to global environmental issues such as climate change and water resources, and assigns one of eight grades including Leadership A, Leadership A-, Management B, and Management B-.
A Kia official stated, "Kia's excellent performance in this CDP evaluation reflects recognition of our efforts to explore and respond to various methods for reducing greenhouse gases and managing water resources," adding, "We will continue to lead climate change response through sustainable management activities such as company-wide carbon neutrality initiatives."
