On the 28th, the Michuhol Police Station in Incheon announced that they have booked and are investigating four second-year middle school students, including A (14), on charges of assault.
A and the others are accused of repeatedly punching their classmate B (14) on the rooftop of a building in Michuhol-gu, Incheon, last month.
During the assault, they reportedly threw eggs and threatened B by saying, "If you let your leg be burned with a cigarette, we'll let you go."
B sustained injuries requiring three weeks of medical treatment due to the assault, and B's parents reported the incident to the School Violence Reporting Center (117 Center) earlier this month.
The police investigating the case are currently questioning A and the others about the specific circumstances and motives behind the assault.
During the investigation, A and the others reportedly stated, "We hit B because we were in a bad mood," and "It was because of a bad relationship with a girlfriend."
Some, during consultations with educational authorities, showed no signs of remorse, saying, "We are actually one year older, but (A) did not treat us respectfully." However, some of the four are below the age of criminal responsibility under current law (under 14 years old) and cannot be held criminally liable.
According to the Juvenile Act, juveniles subject to the Juvenile Act (aged 10 to under 14) who are sent to the juvenile court may receive protective measures ranging from 1 to 10, including custody, community service orders, probation, or placement in a juvenile training center.
