The organization was highly praised for actively and proactively responding to protect the safety and lives of the public and stabilize the livelihoods of various sectors during the COVID-19 crisis.
Last year, the Service operated screening clinics at 10 directly managed hospitals and converted Daegu and Changwon hospitals into national infectious disease dedicated hospitals, deploying approximately 547 medical personnel. This year, immediately after the third wave of the pandemic, Changwon Hospital was operated as a national infectious disease dedicated hospital, and screening clinics were opened at all directly managed hospitals.
They expanded employment insurance coverage to special-type workers (teukgo) and artists who were struggling due to the impact of COVID-19, protecting them from unemployment. Additional job stability funds were provided for small business owners, reductions in industrial accident insurance premiums, extensions of employment and industrial accident insurance premium payment deadlines, relaxation of income requirements for living stabilization fund loans for low-income workers, and the organization served as the agency for collecting emergency disaster donations.
Using the social service fund created from employees' salary deductions, joint labor-management social contribution activities are conducted. Last year, through the 'Hope Dream Donation Petition,' 48 million won was donated to 24 vulnerable individuals who were not eligible for industrial accident insurance payments or were basic livelihood recipients. Notably, last year all employees voluntarily raised 10 million won in donations and delivered it to Ulsan Metropolitan City. Six executives, including the chairman, returned up to 30% of four months' salaries, and after receiving the highest award in the anti-corruption category (Prime Minister's Commendation) at the 8th National Integrity Day, they donated the entire prize money. The Service plans and will promote projects to revitalize the local economy, such as delivering side dishes to low-income families, a relay campaign to support local flower farms, and providing feminine hygiene products to vulnerable groups in the region.
