Crown Confectionery Maichu, First Candy to Receive Quality Certification for Children's Preferred Food
Changing the Package After 17 Years Since Release
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] Crown Confectionery announced on the 27th that Maichu has received quality certification as a children's preferred food from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. Maichu is the first candy product to meet the certification requirements from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety.
To obtain the certification, the product must be manufactured in a facility compliant with HACCP standards, must not be a high-calorie, low-nutrition food, and must not contain edible tar dyes or synthetic preservatives. As of the end of February, only 10 domestic snack brands have received this certification, and among soft candies, Maichu is the only one certified.
Maichu has significantly reduced sugar content by using alternative sweeteners while maintaining its original sweetness. Additionally, the vitamin C content has been increased and vitamin D has been added. One Maichu piece provides 66% of the daily required vitamin C and D intake for children, enhancing its nutritional value.

Marking this certification, Maichu will change its appearance for the first time since its launch in 2004. Collaborating with the founder of abstract painting, Vasily Kandinsky, the brand has created an art package featuring his representative work "Composition." The brand logo's font will also be refreshed to appear more lively. Maichu's annual sales are in the 50 billion KRW range.
