Shinhan Card Unifies All Employees' Titles to 'Nim'... "Building a Horizontal Culture"
100 Days to MyData Launch: Announcing 'Digital Organizational Culture Innovation' Plan
Establishing Horizontal Organizational Culture by Unifying Honorifics to 'Nim'
[Asia Economy Reporter Ki Ha-young] Shinhan Card is unifying all internal titles to 'nim' to establish a flexible and horizontal organizational culture. Instead of all titles with 'jang (長)' such as executives including the CEO and department heads, a single title 'nim' will be used.
On the 27th, Shinhan Card announced the 'Digital Organizational Culture Innovation Plan' to promote a working paradigm shift suitable for the digital and new normal era, marking 100 days before the launch of MyData. The core of the plan is to expand the 'nim title' culture to all positions and introduce smart workplaces and a flexible seating system.
To this end, Shinhan Card formed a task force team (TFT) in February this year and established 12 future-oriented tasks centered on work, people, and office environment, which are key elements for performance creation.
A representative example of the change is the expansion of the 'nim title.' To build an organizational culture focused on role and job rather than rank, the 'nim title' culture will be expanded from current team members to all executives and employees including the CEO.
In addition, the regional base offices called 'Smart Workplaces,' which enable work without location constraints, are currently operated in four locations: Busan, Daejeon, Daegu, and Jeju, with plans to add three more in the metropolitan area.
The Smart Workplace is a work space that allows Seoul headquarters employees to work in provincial areas. Reporting and meetings are conducted via messenger, email, and video conferencing, and employees only need to come to the headquarters when necessary. Especially from the second half of this year, a 'flexible seating system' will be gradually introduced, allowing employees, including department heads, to freely choose their working seats in a single workspace without distinction of organization or team.
The background for Shinhan Card’s digital organizational culture innovation plan aligns with President Lim Young-jin’s ABC innovation strategy. President Lim has ordered the company to rebuild itself from the perspectives of 'core capabilities,' 'business model,' and 'corporate structure' to leap forward as a future-oriented 'Life and Finance Platform' company.
Shinhan Card plans to innovate its business model from the perspectives of core business and future business expansion, such as fostering mobility and subscription economy businesses, in connection with Shinhan Financial Group’s digital strategy, and improve corporate structure through bold equity investments and mergers and acquisitions (M&A) for inorganic new growth.
