"Need to Utilize Telecom Spam Blocking Apps"
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The Broadcasting and Communications Office under the Korea Communications Commission announced on the 26th that it has conducted a focused investigation on adult advertising companies that sent illegal spam using obscene language or methods to evade or obstruct the recipient's refusal to receive messages, identifying 7 businesses and 12 suspects, and referred them to the prosecution.
The Broadcasting and Communications Office analyzed illegal spam data related to adult advertisements and obscene materials reported from September to December 2020, and conducted a focused investigation from January to March on businesses found to have violated the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection, etc.
This investigation was carried out as part of efforts to strengthen monitoring of illegal information distribution media such as prostitution, following the crackdown on spam senders distributing illegal information related to prostitution in January, which resulted in the referral of 3 suspects to the prosecution.
The Broadcasting and Communications Office plans to continue monitoring related companies as reports have recently increased regarding the indiscriminate delivery of 060 adult advertisements to teenagers, requiring special attention to adult advertisement and obscene material spam.
The Broadcasting and Communications Office explained that continuous public interest is necessary to block illegal spam such as adult advertisements and obscene materials. Smartphone users are urged to actively use message blocking apps provided by each telecommunications company by pre-registering unwanted phrases or specific phone numbers.
