Pohang City Officially Begins Procedures for Homigot Peninsula 'National Marine Garden'... Research Service Initiated
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-ho] Preparatory work to promote the Homi Peninsula area as a National Marine Garden has been launched in earnest. On the 23rd, Pohang City’s Marine Industry Division held a kickoff meeting for the "Basic Plan Establishment Research Service for the Creation of Homi Peninsula National Marine Garden."
The term "National Marine Garden" refers to expanding the existing land-centered garden concept to the marine environment, meaning a space where the nation (including local governments) conserves marine ecosystems by protecting marine flora and fauna, restores coastal marine environments, and enhances marine value.
Homi-got is a representative coastal terrace area in South Korea, also designated as a Donghae Coast National Geopark. It boasts an excellent marine ecosystem with marine protected species such as the crab seaweed (Gebadamal), Sugo head seaweed (Sugeomeori-mal), and trumpet shell (Napal-godung).
Pohang City plans to promote the creation of the Homi Peninsula National Marine Garden with a basic plan focused on creating a healthy marine environment, establishing a marine culture and healing tourism hub, enhancing regional value, and revitalizing the local economy.
This research service involves the Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology, Keysight Architects Co., Ltd., and Shinhan University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, who will prepare the requirements and supporting materials for selecting the preliminary feasibility study target.
